Supporting those struggling with their faith

Pastoral care training

Supporting those struggling with their faith

This training is suitable for experienced pastoral carers and church leaders who wish to understand more about why people struggle with doubts and questions about their faith, why so many people are ‘deconstructing’ their faith, and how they can support people through this process.

Prior pastoral experience and training, such ACC’s ‘Building Blocks in Pastoral Care’ course, is useful to engage with this workshop.

Training objective: This trainer-led workshop aims to increase participants’ understanding of why people doubt and question their faith in response to life circumstances and contexts. It seeks to help churches understand how church culture and pastoral accompaniment can influence both the experience and the outcome of faith struggles.

This training includes:

  • Exploring doubt and questioning from a biblical, psychological and theological perspective.
  • The experiences and contexts that may trigger a faith struggle or faith deconstruction
  • The potential holistic impact and spiritual outcomes of this process
  • How churches can accompany people questioning their faith
