Back to ACC Summer School 2012 Info
Teresa Onions has worked in the NHS for 30 years, as an Occupational Therapist in Mental Health and as a counsellor and supervisor in Primary Health Care. She trained as a counsellor at St. John’s, Nottingham also becoming a trainer. She worked for 5 years as Pastoral Leader within her local church overseeing pastoral care, counselling and prayer ministry. Teresa has been involved in re-editing the ACC Pastoral Care Foundation Course and is currently developing a service called ReNew offering counselling, training and support to pastoral carers. She works at the interface of care and counselling, church and community, psychology and theology and in her spare time wanders the Fells of the Lake District where she lives.
If you have a heart for developing pastoral care within your church and community and you are considering running the ACC Pastoral Care Foundation Course but would like an opportunity to try it out for yourself and observe other trainers using the material then this is the course for you. As well as fully experiencing and engaging with all aspects of the Pastoral Care Foundation Course from the perspective of a trainee, you will also have opportunity to consider the course material and training methods from a course leader / trainer perspective and discuss any questions you might have about setting up and leading a course in your church or community.
The course covers a Christian understanding of pastoral care, human need, the caring relationship, listening to self, God and others, safe practice and pastoral resources. We will also be including time for reflecting and journaling on how the course is impacting you and how you might apply what you are learning, as well as reading and reviewing a book from the recommended reading list. This is a great opportunity to pick up helpful ideas and tips from two experienced trainers who worked together on the production of this new version of the ACC Pastoral Care Foundation Course.
