Regulation of Counselling

PREPARING FOR REGULATION

It is anticipated that a national register of counsellors will be opened in 2011. ACC are currently involved in discussions with the Professional Liaison Group set up by the Health Professions Council. Background to the Regulation of Counsellors can be found in the Government document ‘Trust, Assurance, and Safety.’
Regulation is no longer a question of ‘if’ but ‘when'.
ACC support safety of clients and are therefore working towards regulation on behalf of its members. We are encouraging members to become accredited but as a minimum to enrol onto our Voluntary Register of Counsellors.
Being on the Voluntary Register of Christian Counsellors will enable you to build up a record of complaint free practice.

Other benefits of ACC membership include:
• receiving accord magazine
• regional networking
• concessionary prices for events such as the ACC Conference
• access to specialist briefing papers when published
• access to favourable insurance rates
• access to help and advice from Head Office team
• access to the members area of the ACC web site

The members' area currently contains Back issues of accord, a Jobs page, a Forthcoming Events page and documents related to accreditation that are not in the public domain.
There is also the option for members to have their own web page within the ACC site.
In the future it is intended to extend the member benefits further, possibly to include a forum.
Counsellor membership is available for an annual fee of £70.00 plus £6 joining fee.

With the Government Regulation of Counselling in progress then the more members that ACC represents, the stronger the Voice of Christian Counselling.
