Practitioner in Training
This status is recommended as a first step for those who are working towards full accredited membership of the Association. Requirements for a Practitioner in Training:-
- Agreement with the ACC's "Statement of Faith".
- Agreement to work within the terms of ACC's "Ethics and Practice" document.
- Completion of a minimum of 200 hours training, this training must be on an ACC recognised Certificate (Level 3) or equivalent course. If the training is not ACC recognised then a 2000 word essay entitled 'How I integrate my Christian philosophy with the counselling model which I use' will be required.
- Photocopies of logged evidence of at least 50 hours of supervised counselling practice.
- Photocopies of logged evidence that the applicant has been and is currently in supervision.
- Reference from the applicant's supervisor. This must be on the form currently approved by the ACC and must reflect the experience, competence and good practice of the applicant.
- Reference from the applicant's Church Leader who will confirm that the applicant is a maturing Christian and in fellowship with other Christians.
- One case study (approx. 1250 words) taken from the last year of practice.
- Agreement to undertake further training of at least 40 hours during the four year validity of the certificate.
- Agreement to keep proper ongoing counselling and supervision records.
- Photocopies of certificates for the training courses completed.
- proof of adequate professional indemnity insurance.
Certification lasts for 4 years but applicants will be sent a reminder letter approximately 6 months before their
accreditation is due to lapse so that they can reassess their level of
accreditation to avoid any member having an obsolete certificate. At this point a Practitioner in Training will have two options :-
Option 1. To apply for a Maintenance certificate which would require :- i) all the original documents completed up to date with new references supplied. ii) produce additional documentation showing at least 40 hours of training in the last four years.
Option 2. Having done further training and gained increased supervised experience a Practitioner in Training can apply for the status of Counselling Practitioner or Accredited Counsellor. In order to gain the status of either level the full criteria of the new level will need to be met.
