ACC IN WALES - EXPLORING COUNSELLING AND SPIRITUALITY

[Our photo shows Professor Brian Thorne with ACC Wales representative Mary Hall.]

At our 2010 conference (13 March, Bethel Baptist Church, Pontyclun) we held a workshop for counsellors and pastoral carers entitled The spiritual discipline of the person-centred practitioner.

We were delighted to welcome Professor Brian Thorne to lead us in examining the legacy of Carl Rogers’ person centred approach to counselling and helping, and to explore the implications of both Rogers’ and his own work for the spiritual development of the helper. The overwhelming response to this day was of how much everyone gained both from listening to Brian and by taking part in the group work.

The conference was very well attended including many counsellors, plus trainees from local colleges and universities who had not been to an ACC event before. We have thus met new friends and now have many more people interested in our activities.
