Emeritus

If an accredited member has, through special personal circumstances, had to significantly reduce their counselling activities they can explore the possibility of joining the 'emeritus' category.

Requirements for accreditation in the 'Emeritus' Category :-

• Agreement with the ACC's "Statement of Faith".
• Agreement to work within the terms of ACC's "Ethics and Practice" document.
• The applicant must hold or should have held, within the last 2 years, accreditation as a Counselling Practitioner, Accredited Counsellor, Counsellor Manager or Accredited Supervisor.
• Submission of a letter outlining eligibility for this category.
• Photocopies of logged evidence of the applicant's counselling/supervision practice showing a minimum of 100 hours supervised practice over the last four years.
• Reference from the applicant's supervisor. This must be on the form currently approved by the ACC and must reflect the experience, competence and good practice of the applicant.
• Reference from the applicant's Church Leader who will confirm that the applicant is a maturing Christian and in fellowship with other Christians.
• Submission of a reading list, from the last two years, related to counselling - i.e books, journals etc; this is to demonstrate ongoing consideration of counselling issues.
• Maintenance of ongoing membership of the Association.
• Proof of adequate professional indemnity insurance is strongly recommended.
• N.B.
  

i) This category is not available to anyone who has had accreditation withdrawn by the Association.

ii) No case study required.

iii) No specific training hours are required but applicants must submit certificates of any training completed in the last four years.

iv) This category is not available to those who are maintaining a work load which could gain a full accreditation.

Certification lasts for 4 years but applicants will be sent a reminder letter approximately 6 months before their accreditation is due to lapse so that they can reassess their level of accreditation to avoid any member having an obsolete certificate. At this point an 'Emeritus' category member will have two options :-

Option1. To apply for a Maintenance certificate which would require :-

All the original documents completed up to date with new references supplied (no case study required).

Option2. Apply, if appropriate, for another category.

Re-accrediting from pre January 2005 levels
Those who were accredited under the system in force before January 2005 will be sent details of the appropriate new level to apply for when their accreditation is due for renewal.
