Accreditation as an Accredited Counsellor
There is now only 1 route for accreditation at this level.
Requirements for accreditation as an Accredited Counsellor :-
- Agreement with the ACC's "Statement of Faith".
- Agreement to work within the terms of ACC's "Ethics and Practice" document.
- Completion of a minimum of 500 hours training, the bulk of this training must be on a recognised Diploma (Level 4) or Degree course, from a UK based educational establishment. If the training is not ACC recognised then a 2000 word essay entitled 'How I integrate my Christian philosophy with the counselling model which I use' will be required.
- Photocopies of logged evidence of at least 600 hours of supervised counselling practice.
- Photocopies of logged evidence that the applicant has been and is currently in supervision.
- Reference from the applicant's supervisor. This must be on the form currently approved by the ACC and must reflect the experience, competence and good practice of the applicant.
- Reference from the applicant's Church Leader who will confirm that the applicant is a maturing Christian and in fellowship with other Christians.
- One case study (approx. 2-3000 words including verbatim) taken from the last year of practice.
- Agreement to undertake further training of at least 40 hours during the four year validity of the certificate.
- Agreement to keep proper ongoing counselling and supervision records.
- Photocopies of certificates for the training courses completed.
- Proof, evidenced by a counselling colleague, supervisor or Agency, that the applicant has worked at the Counselling Practitioner level for some time, normally in excess of 3 years.
- Proof of adequate professional indemnity insurance.
. To apply for a Maintenance certificate at Accredited Counsellor level would require :-
i) logs showing an average of 100 hours supervised counselling per annum over the life of the previous certificate.
ii) additional documentation showing at least 40 hours of training in the last four years.
iii) a reference from the applicant's supervisor. This must be on the form currently approved by the ACC and must reflect the experience, competence and good practice of the applicant.
iv) photocopies of logged evidence that the applicant has been and is currently in supervision.
v) a reference from the applicant's Church Leader who will confirm that the applicant is a maturing Christian and in fellowship with other Christians.
vi) a reading list, from the last two years, related to counselling - books, journals etc; this is in order to demonstrate ongoing consideration of counselling issues.
vii) proof of adequate professional indemnity insurance.
Supervisor accreditation can be added to the status of Accredited Counsellor by meeting the criteria - see "Supervisor"
