Requirements for accreditation as a Counselling Practitioner :-
Certification lasts for 4 years but applicants will be sent a reminder letter approximately 6 months before their accreditation is due to lapse so that they can reassess their level of accreditation to avoid any member having an obsolete certificate. At this point a Counselling Practitioner will have three options :-
Option1. To apply for a Maintenance certificate which would require:-
i) logs showing an average of 100 hours supervised counselling per annum over the life of the previous certificate.
ii) additional documentation showing at least 40 hours of training in the last four years.
iii) a reference from the applicant's supervisor. This must be on the form currently approved by ACC and must reflect the experience, competence and good practice of the applicant.
iv) photocopies of logged evidence that the applicant has been and is currently in supervision.
v) a reference from the applicant's Church Leader who will confirm that the applicant is a maturing Christian and in fellowship with other Christians.
vi) one case study (approx. 1250 words) taken from the last year of practice.
vii) proof of adequate professional indemnity insurance.
Option 2. If an applicant has completed a recognised degree or diploma in counselling from a UK based educational establishment and gained increased supervised experience a Counselling Practitioner may apply for accreditation as an Accredited Counsellor In order to be accredited at the new level the full criteria will need to be met.
Option 3. Apply, if appropriate, for 'Emeritus' or Counsellor Manager.
Supervisor accreditation can be added to the status of Counselling Practitioner by meeting the criteria - see "Supervisor".
